What To Expect

What To Expect at Integrative Cancer Centers of America (ICCA)

Being diagnosed with cancer is a very stressful experience for both the patient and the patient's family. We believe that researching for the best medical care possible shouldn't add to your stress. Therefore, we strive to make learning about our centers easy and stress-free. Below is a guide that walks you through every phase in detail of the entire experience at ICCA.

Initial Consultation

After submitting your medical documents via our medical questionnaire, one of our Patient Liaison’s will contact you via telephone to review information about your current health, treatments, and/or therapies undergone to date, and any other information requested by our medical team to better help us understand your medical needs and create a customized treatment plan.

  • You will be guided through the options that our Centers have for our patients, our estimated costs, discuss travel plans, and set an appointment for you to meet our team in person (or virtually if requested) to solidify your treatment plan and stay.

Travel & Stay

All personalized treatment plans require patients to travel to Integrative Cancer Centers of America to receive parts of their treatment. The duration of stay varies from patient to patient, and is dependent upon the type, stage and aggressiveness of the type of cancer we are fighting. Typically, treatments are 10 sessions administered Monday-Friday (2 weeks).

Incoming patients typically arrive on Sunday’s and begin onboarding on Monday’s. We highly recommend you come with a companion to help you travel, give you support, and keep your spirits up during the process of healing or rehabilitation.

  • You and your companion will fly into San Diego International Airport (SAN)
  • A hotel reservation will be made in the Gas Lamp District of Diego, a historical neighborhood filled with great dining and entertainment.
  • In the morning, your Patient Liaison will pick you up from your hotel and drive you across the U.S.border (est. 1 hr drive) to Baja California, MX to check-in to the Grand Hotel Tijuana (unless you've made accommodations elsewhere previously agreed upon).
  • Upon arrival to the Grand Hotel, you will check-in at the Front Desk, and will then be greeted by our Healing Concierge.
  • Our Healing Concierge will explain the schedule of the day ahead and will give insight on what to expect out of your visit.
  • You will be escorted to your room where you will have the opportunity to get settled until your appointment time arrives.

Integrative Meeting

At ICCA we ensure the patient is completely in the know with every decision that is made regarding their care and treatment options. During your integrative meeting, your physician will walk you through your entire personalized treatment plan and answer any questions you may have in order to feel comfortable and confident to begin your treatment.

  • Approximately 10 minutes before your appointment time, our Healing Concierge will come to escort you to the Grand Care floor of the Grand Hotel where you will have your Integrative Meeting with the Physician to review your individualized treatment protocol.
  • At the end of your consultation, our Healing Concierge will take you on a tour of the facility and hotel to ensure you know your way and feel as comfortable as you can be.
  • Following the tour of the facility and hotel, our Healing Concierge will review your schedule with you.
  • Dependent on your treatment protocol, you may be able to start your Healing Journey the same day as your consultation. If not, then you will have time to absorb all the information that was presented to you, overnight, and begin treatments the following day.

During Treatment

All treatment plans created by ICCA physicians are personalized to each patient’s individualized needs consisting of a combination of integrative and complementary cancer treatments. Dependent on your particular treatment plan, you will have treatments administered at our medical center and/or at our surrounding affiliated out-patient facilities.

  • Our Healing Concierge will drive you to and from all of your appointments to ensure you are on-time and present for each treatment.
  • Any suggested supplements or medications that is included in your treatment plan will be picked up and delivered by our Healing Concierge.
  • For any off time you may have in between treatments, we highly recommend you take advantage of the amenities Grand Hotel has to offer as well as the many rejuvenating self-care resources located on the Grand Care Floor of the hotel.
  • Please note that food, drinks, activities, and entertainment are NOT included in the treatment price.
  • Our Healing Concierge will be more than happy to make recommendations to the ample selection of restaurants, laundry serivces, and shopping to experience the best of Baja, California while you're here.

Our integrative care does not stop after your protocol with us ends. At ICCA, we are committed to enhancing and supporting your health and well-being long after your treatment is completed. Our care team is in constant contact with you to ensure your recovery process is as smooth as possible.

  • At the end of your protocol, you will receive a medical consultation during which your physician will explain your home program that includes nutraceuticals, supplements, and maintenance medications to and/or prepare you for your next treatment.
  • 5 weeks after treatment ends, it is imperative that you receive a CT scan with contrast to confirm tumor death and shrinkage.
  • 8-10 weeks after treatment is the ideal window for tumor ablation for any residual tumor mass. An ablation is a minimally invasive surgical method to treat solid mass. This may be covered under your physicians care or you can choose to come back to ICCA and have the team perform the ablation.
  • After the ablation is complete, our Oncologists will continue to monitor your health remotely by sending your maintenance lab reports and scans. You should also schedule maintenance follow up appointments with your primary Oncologist.
  • It is highly recommended be actively involved in our health and healing department to complete the wholistic healing approach of mind, body, and soul.
